I recently received an email from a man who wanted a special birthday gift for his girlfriend…apparently she loves owls and Dali…this was the final product…
…an owl with a fancy moustache!
The latest commission to leave the workshop was a treat to make! My client had a beautiful jade earring set in gold…a gift given to her by her husband to celebrate an anniversary…Unfortunately she only wore the earrings once before she lost one of them! The lone earring had great sentimental value to my client and seeing as she is not one for wearing mismatched earrings we decided to create a ring that she could wear, along with some stacking rings that she had commissioned in England a few years ago. This was the final result…
There was some gold left from the earring wire as well as the earring butterflies so I created a another stacking ring to go with the jade…
The two rings look really sweet together…and they go really well with her other stacking rings…
It was really fun to give new life to a piece of jewellery that would have otherwise been left, unworn in a jewellery box.
It’s hard to believe that this time last week Design Indaba 2014 (held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre) was all set up and open to buyers and press!
I had a wonderful time at this Indaba and I would like to thank everybody who helped, supported and to everyone who came to say hi. I was lucky enough to exhibit in the jewellery section, next to some wonderfully creative people. Thank you to my fellow exhibitors who bought coffee and kept me entertained in the quiet moments before the doors opened each morning.

While I was studying I would dream about the workshop that I would open one day…I always imagined I would have a studio dog or even a cat that would keep me company as I worked. Instead last year I acquired an unexpected ‘pet’…
This little guy would sit on the window frame outside my studio and as time passed he got so used to me that he wouldn’t even move as I walked by…in fact he got so friendly that he would stick his head through my window at least once a day as if to say, “Hi!”.
In December, his perch- a.k.a the window frame- was secured a few steps over to the other side of the passage way so now he no longer sits directly at my window but I still see him from my bench. This year…not only does he have a freshly painted perch…but he has also found himself a lady friend!
The two of them now spend countless hours cooing, cuddling and grooming each other.
Yes that’s right…in exactly 5 weeks I will be setting up my stand at the Design Indaba Expo for 2014! The Design Indaba has a history of being an exciting and inspiring expo and this year will be extra special as Cape Town is the World Design Capital…there is lots to be done in the next few weeks but I am looking forward to another fun and inspiring expo!
One of my Christmas gifts arrived a little early…I can’t wait to doll ‘her’ up with some of my jewellery at my next show!

…to my surprise a few minutes after I had posted this photo, I received a message asking if I could design a necklace inspired by these beautiful blooms. I decided the necklace should consist of a spray of orchid flowers and buds that sit within a choker-length chain…this is the final result (of one of my favourite – and unexpected- commissions)…
